TIP AND TRICKS FOR MAKING LIFE EASY 15
SNUFF OUT YOUR SNIFFLES
Kids are germ magnets—they trade coughs and colds like
baseball cards. And, of course, they bring their bugs home for the whole family
to enjoy. While there is still no cure for the common cold (surely somebody
must be working on it?!), there are plenty of ways to combat it.
If you or your kid comes down with
the sniffles, you can fight back with horseradish. You may well be more likely
to get your kids to eat a bar of soap, but if by some miracle you can get them
to swallow a little spoonful (or at least take a good sniff from the jar), you
could find that their breathing frees up. It’s certainly a lot cheaper than
your average cold remedy!
NONDRIP ICE PACK
Sprained ankles and sore joints no longer have to be a
soggy affair, but they will still be painful
. . . sorry.
For a nondrip ice pack, soak a sponge
in water, then put it into a ziplock bag before freezing it. When you come to
use it, the melting ice will collect in the bag instead of running all over
your nice clothes and carpet.
TICKLY-THROAT RELIEVER
Ever had one of those infuriating
itches in your throat that you just can’t scratch? The next time this happens,
try touching your ear. As crazy as it sounds, massaging your earlobe between
your thumb and index finder will make the itch disappear. (No, it doesn’t
matter which earlobe you massage. Knock yourself out and massage both.)
Massaging your ear stimulates nerves, which can cause a tiny muscle in your
throat to spasm, so “scratching” the maddening itch. If you’re feeling lazy,
make a game out of it and get your kid to do the hard work!
