TIP AND TRICKS FOR MAKING LIFE EASY 11
RETRO PHONE STAND
Who said cassettes were dead? For a useful blast from the
past, check this hack out.
Grab an old cassette tape case (no,
not your mint-condition Hall & Oates album—use Cyndi Lauper instead). Fold
the lid in on itself, toward the back side of the case, and rest it flat on
your desk. Your obsolete piece of music packaging has now become a retro-chic
smartphone holder, which will allow you to keep an eye on your incoming texts
and emails while you do something more interesting, or even watch a movie on a
tiny screen (I recommend The Goonies),
just like home video in the 1980s.
CABLE ORGANIZER
Wireless technology is a gift from the tech gods—but
somehow, like hoverboards, it has yet to become ubiquitous. So, like so many
dads out there, you probably have an entire drawer of cables. Time to sort them
out.
Find yourself a sturdy box (the size
should vary according to the amount of wires you have collected over the
years), and begin collecting spent toilet paper rolls (enough to fill the box
when standing them up vertically). When your collection is complete, fold your
wires so that they fit snugly into the toilet rolls, and place them in the box.
You’re on a roll!
LAPTOP COOLER
The beauty of gadgets is that they’re at least 50 percent
unnecessary (I checked: it’s the official standard). However, this can work
against you when you’re paying hard-earned cash for solid-gold crap.
Take, for instance, those fancy
cooling pads to stop your laptop from overheating: 24 carat. I like to keep
things nice and simple (i.e., free) by using an overturned empty egg carton.
OK, it’s not pretty, but it will ensure your computer gets lots of airflow
where it needs it.
