TIP AND TRICKS FOR MAKING LIFE EASY 9
BREAD ERASER
Question: What do you do if your kids
scribble all over your walls (and the hack
isn’t suitable, because you don’t want your living room to smell like an auto
shop)? Get a slice of white bread (semi-stale works best), remove the crusts,
and scrunch the soft center into a ball. Wipe the wall with a soft cloth, then
rub your bread ball over the pencil or crayon to erase the offending marks.
Yes, you could use an eraser, but scrubbing your walls with a carbohydrate is
much more fun.
NONSLIP RUG
You know how it is with kids—they wriggle, they run, they
end up facedown on the floor crying their eyes out. No matter how much you
supervise their playtime, falling over is a given, but you can do your best to
avoid it.
If you have rugs and doormats that
are devoid of a grippy underside, don’t splurge on an expensive nonslip mat cut
to size—simply apply some lines of acrylic sealant (the kind you use in the
bathroom) to the underside of the mat or rug, and it should stay put. If you
have to buy the sealant, you’re now set up to re-seal the bathtub and sink when
the time comes—you’re a regular DIY expert!
POWER CORD PERFECTION
Every guy has done it. You break out
the lawn mower (or the vacuum cleaner), and instead of finding a outlet nearer
to the job, you go right ahead and plug it in a few feet from where you got it
(maybe you’re just unlucky and don’t have a choice), meaning you have to
stretch the full length of the cord to start work. So you’re at risk of yanking
the plug out of the wall while getting busy. Save yourself the humiliation of
having to go back there and plug it in by installing a cleat near the
socket—that way, you can wrap the power cord around an anchor point, making it
impossible to unplug.
