TIP AND TRICKS FOR MAKING LIFE EASY 3
DEAD-BATTERY BOUNCE
If your kid’s remote-controlled puppy
is on the fritz, slamming it against the table won’t help. Try this simple test
instead: take out the batteries and drop them (negative-side down) onto a hard
surface to see whether they bounce or not. A fresh alkaline battery will land
with a thud and fall over when dropped from a height of an inch or two. A dead
(or dying) battery will do a little bounce. Apparently, below the “good”
battery contains a gel-like substance, which absorbs any bounce, whereas the
“bad” battery has turned solid inside so recoils off a hard surface. So now you
know.

SUPER NUTCRACKER HANDS
Every dad wants to be seen as a
superhero by his kids—chances are, you’re not going to be able to achieve
independent flight anytime soon, but here’s something every dad can do. Prove
your super strength by cracking two walnuts with your bare hands. Place the
nuts in your palm and line up the hard ridge of one of the nuts with an
indentation on the other—so they lock together, like a jigsaw. Close your hand
around the nuts and apply firm pressure until the nuts crack. Wrapping your
other hand around your first to add additional pressure can help. But the
onehanded nut crack is the mark of a true dad hero.
